I have experience in multiple child care settings including Child Watch at the YMCA as well as a short period of time working at Kindercare. I love working with children because they add fun and excitement to every day. I plan to continue my education in child care and early childhood education. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Some experience I have caring for children include the following. First, I started off instructing pre-school gymnastics at the YMCA. Some sessions the parents were involved in activities. However, most of my classes were coach based with parents either in the gym working out, or watching from the parent area. Under this title, I was responsible for creating engaging lesson plans for each session and making sure the children were safe and having fun. I also worked in the Child Watch/Nursery area at the YMCA. There were many different stations at this job including babies, toddlers, older kids area, snack area, bathrooms, and craft area. At this job I got a lot of experience learning what activities children tend to enjoy as well as learn from. I also learned how to communicate with the children in a way they can better understand, which was important especially when there was a disagreement between the kids. At this job, I also got some experience with special needs children.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Some indoor activities I enjoy doing with children include the following. One of my favorites is singing and dancing to children music. During my time at the YMCA, I ran into a lot of fun and engaging music activities that the kids seem to enjoy the most. I also enjoy these because it gets the kids up and moving! I also enjoy reading stories with the children and sometimes even making up our own to get the creativity flowing. I love doing arts and crafts, building activities with blocks such as Legos. Another indoor/outdoor activity I enjoy doing is a scavenger hunt. I feel like this really gets children excited to find a treasure after all their hard work and can boost their confidence in themselves. An outdoor activity I enjoy doing with children is an obstacle course. This is another one that gets them moving and gets some exercise in. This can boost their confidence as well which adds an extra bonus. Another fun outdoor activity is small games such as hopscotch or playing ball.

My experience with special needs children...

During my time working at the YMCA, I got experience working with special needs children. I have cared for children with Down Syndrome and Autism. During that time, I learned some techniques to give better care to them and help them communicate what they need. I learned that sometimes, they have a hard time communicating what their needs are and it can frustrate them. Which is why patience is key and learning from each new child is a must. Also, every child has their own personality and needs. Which means that I need to gauge my technique to fit each child individually rather than generalizing how to care for each child.
