I’ve been a teachers assistant in an elementary school before! where I cared for children on the spectrum.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I absolutely love singing with kids! I love being able to teach kids things by incorporating activities I know they’ll love. whether it be singing like I said before or coloring, and counting. to grab a child’s attention, you have to find something interactive and active to keep their energy flowing.

The most important part about being a nanny...

paying attention to the child’s needs. I’m not talking about if they’re thirsty or hungry. I’m talking about being there for them emotionally. children are getting used to life and figuring themselves out as they grow so their emotions are at a HIGH. It’s important that you listen and pay attention to what they may need in that moment because that’s how you build trust.

My experience with special needs children...

I have a brother with autism who I took care of a lot so i am fully capable of knowing how to communicate with children that may not know how to. how do I do that? make sure that you’re speaking in a soft calm tone because it helps this mind feel safer and a bit at ease. remember? children on the spectrum feel things differently so it’s important to recognize that and help them understand that they’re safe and you’re with them to listen. I’ve had experience as a TA where I got help out in the classroom with children on the spectrum.

The most important part about being a nanny...

the random hugs 🥹 or the gifts. children are so precious. I really do love when they’re comfortable enough to sit and chat with you about anything. children have a wild imagination and can tell stories for hours. I love listening and seeing what they come up with. It can get interesting haha
