Last year I worked at a Special needs School in Bergen county. I worked more with kids that had ADHD and behavioral problems.

I remember once a student in my class earned his points to print a coloring sheet(his favorite thing) but unfortunately that day the school printer was not working. Once I went and told him he was very upset. He was screaming, throwing things around the classroom and I had to remove him from the class. I was not angry or anything at him I just calmly talked to him and told him to take a few breaths to try to control his emotions. Once he was able to sort of be calm I told him that I understood how he felt and that it’s ok that he feels upset but that throwing things around was not safe for him or his classmates. I told him that since the printer was not working I could draw it for him. He quickly apologized and was very happy about the option I gave him. From that day on, if the printer doesn’t work he comes running to me “Mrs. Isa Mrs. Isa Can you draw this for me?”. He is such a cutie!
