My experience with special needs children...
I use to nanny a special needs teenager/ Adult that was on the high end of the spectrum, I was asked to give him his medicine while preparing each of his meals and making sure he went to bed on time, we played a lot with his toys and I would always would play puppet show with his stuffed animals. I also have experience with younger children on the spectrum I use to watch my 5 year old cousin who is non verbal and high on the spectrum as well. I let her do her thing while still showing her guidance to what she may want and I would find different ways of trying to communicate with her.
