My experience with special needs children...
My son has autism. He was identified when he was 3. He now drives a car, has a job and his own apartment. I also taught children in public schools that had an array of disabilities that were physical, social/emotional and learning. In my experience, every child is the same in that they all just want to be accepted as they are and be as successful as they can be.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I had a student that had brain cancer when she was 3 or 4. The chemotherapy that she received saved her life but it also affected her ability to remember things. In the fall of 2020, we were allowed to go back to school but our class sizes were very limited. I had about 10 students. I was able to give this little girl the one-on-one teaching that she needed all year long. She could see that she was making progress. The next year she visited me almost every day. One day, she wrote me a letter and said, "Thank you for helping me learn. I love you and you are pretty.
