More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have my own 2 year old son, who I was home with for the first 15 months, until I started to nanny again part time.
I was also a preschool teacher. I had my own one-year-old classroom where I was responsible for the social, emotional, educational, and physical development of a group of toddlers. I was a sub in all classrooms, infants through pre-k. I also taught Head Start (3-5 year olds) and Early Head Start (1-3 year olds), where I planned individualized lesson plans, set weekly goals, and kept in constant communication with parents.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy facilitating learning by reading with children. With the younger ones I will sing songs. I will take younger children for a walk outside in the stroller or play outside with the older ones. I enjoy having conversations with the kids, whether it be encouraging the little ones to develop language skills, or talking to the older kids about their interests.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing is of course to keep children safe, but also to create a connection with the children. It is also important to communicate with parents and follow their lead as far as routines, rules, and how they would like things to be done. It is important to facilitate a child’s emotional, physical, and cognitive growth and development, not always in conventional sitting down and learning ways (unless of course it’s doing homework with the older ones), but by incorporating it into play.
My experience with special needs children...
When I taught Early Head Start, I had a child in my class who had autism and I had to learn and adjust my methods as a preschool teacher to fit his needs. I have worked with children with ADHD in a preschool setting and a home setting, working on virtual school. I have also worked with children with delayed speech.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moments are when the children who don't always hug, come up to me and hug me.
One of the little boys I work with was leaving for the airport to go on vacation and he suddenly looked sad and said he didn't want to go because he didn't want me to leave. He made me promise I'd come back the following week and that I would send his mom texts while he was away.
My favorite moments are also when parents express how much they trust and appreciate me. It always means the world to me when a parent tells me how much I have helped, encouraged, or made a difference in their child(ren)’s lives.
