Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
as a volunteer for the family days at CAM in St. Louis, a volunteer for the local vacation bible school for a few summers (I am not personally religious but I was raised in one and respect all religions), as a regular “date night” sitter for my dental hygienist, and a sporadic sitter when needed for various family members’ kids ages 5-10. I also grew up with my younger sister who had/has severe anxiety, so I have a lot of patience and compassion for mental health.

I’m always happy to do any arts and crafts, story time, or building activities indoors. Outside I’ll play along with games they make up and go on walks if possible/okay with parents.

Being able to build trust from both the parents and child(/children) so that they can count on me to take care of them—both as a source of fun but also as a figure of firm guidance. It’s an incredible responsibility to be a regular part of a kiddo’s life, and I take that role seriously in striving to be both a good example as well as source of positivity.

A girl (age 8) I babysat regularly wanted to do arts and crafts, so together we made jewelry with letter and pony beads. She was a little machine and made a lot of things so I hadn’t noticed this one, but she woke up before I left so that she could give me the cutest little bracelet with my name—it was so sweet!
