More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
In addition to the information about me, I have been a teacher for students aged preschool- 12 . I have been a camp counselor, baby sitter, and have raised 2 wonderful children as well.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Love being outside, being creative, listening to music, and reading. I have a good imagination, am artistic, and am an excellent teacher ( specifically early - elementary reading and math). I know American Sign Language and most children enjoy learning that so I teach ASL if interested.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being a nanny is being a care giver, mentor, support, protector, teacher, and role model. It is essential to care for the child the way their parents want. A nanny must care for a child with the devotion they have to their own children but must adhere and follow ( and absolutely respect )the parents' family rules. Being a nanny is more than a 'job.' You have been given the task of being an intricate part of a family and a child's life.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked as a camp counselor in Wisconsin for children and adults with special needs ( primarily intellectual impairments, severe autism, physical disabilities ( blind and/or deaf.) the students I have worked with in NOLA, the last 6 years, have had emotional and/or behavioral needs. I have also worked with many students who have IEPs or 504s.
The most important part about being a nanny...
There are so many but I will share this one: I wanted to make sure my charges felt independent and when appropriate, make choices for themselves. We discussed early on that I didn't consider them "babies" , therefore I was not their "babysitter". After a few ideas where tossed around, we decided that I would be their 'manager." I loved when we were out and other kids would ask to play or go on playdates and the boys would say, "I have to talk to my manager." I had so much fun and shared a lot of memories and life events with these 4 boys. They were and are very important to me.
