working at camp! I've worked with kids in the 6-14 range at a christian summer camp. A lot of my time was spent at day-care, while our junior groups were my favorite!
The most important part about being a nanny...
is making sure the kids know they are loved. That can look like encouraging their silliness, keeping them safe, and explaining why things are or are not okay.
My experience with special needs children...
At camp, we had friends who weren't always suited for all of the camp's activities. I helped to encourage them to engage where they could, and encourage them to take breaks when needed. Most notably, during my 'staff support' weeks, I was the designated person to take kids to the 'chill zone' when they needed space to cool down and get a fresh start.
