I have a year and a half of child development training. I love to see children grow and use their imaginations to learn and figure things out. I also am not an in the house all of the time kind of nanny. I love activities and going outside when possible. I'm very structured in thought and routines. I love to cook and keep a tidy space for the little ones!

I’ve been helping take care of kids since I was in late middle school. I taught Tae Kwon Do (the specific style was “life skills” based!) from ages 3 ½ - older adults. [phone number hidden]

. I babysat some of my students over the years, I would become part of their families. I’m fun but can also discipline when needed. I am very entertained when talking to kids! I I haven’t been teaching since March 2018 and wow I’ve felt so was a huge part of my life, playing and teaching kids of all ages...I think it does come very natural to me and most children tend to gravitate towards me for sure! If you give me a chance and teach me how you want things, I promise not to let you down! If your kids just need a driver, cool I’ll be there! If they need a buddy, I’ll be right there chatting up a storm or cheering them on at an event! I definitely do not mind cleaning at all, I do it all the time haha! If you need a tutor, sure 1+1=2. Whatever you need, I’ll become for you and your kids!

I started babysitting at age 12, had my own babysitting service at age 15, began working in a Christian childcare as a group leader at 19, was a private nanny twice in my twenties, completed a dual degree in Elementary Education/Liberal Studies (group teaching, student teaching), worked in an educational resource store for 4 years and now have 3 children of my own as well as 6 nieces and nephews. I was also a CCD teacher for the Catholic church and am currently a sometimes-substitute teacher.

My mother has had an in-home daycare my entire life, so I have constantly been surrounded by children. I helped my mom out as I got older, but really got into babysitting when I was around 13. I got involved as a nanny primarily with one family for about four years. Because of my years of babysitting and home situation, I have had experience with almost all age groups and many different types of children. I also took a child development class in high school that gave me further professional training. I am just about finished with my school semester and am ending my current job working in a pharmacy, so any child care job I take will be my primary focus. I absolutely love children and feel that I have a great reputation with working with them.

I am have been employed as an early childhood teacher for the xx for over five years. I have taught third grade and pre-kindergarten. During my teaching career I have worked as a tutor after school hours helping students in elementary and middle school. Prior to becoming a teacher I worked as a para educator providing one on one support to teenagers with severe disabilities. Other than working in the school system I have worked as a nanny and in daycare settings. For one nanny position I brought my son with me. While I was in middle and high school I baby sat for neighbors as well as friends of family members. During high school I took a childcare course as an elective and helped out in the daycare center at our school twice a week. During my senior year of high school I worked a part time job at a School. After high school graduation I enrolled in Howard Community College. I also worked as a nanny for a family in Columbia, Maryland. It was my responsibility to provide care for one infant and at times her sister who was two years old. The two year old was enrolled in preschool, and I watched after her when she did not go, on weekends and in the evenings. The youngest child was on the wait list. I ended up moving to Anne Arundel County in 2004. When living in Anne Arundel County I worked at the School again, but in a different location. While there, I met a wonderful family. Their four month old was in my class. They offered me a part time babysitter/nanny job with them. I decided to take it. I watched their little girl several times a week for about one year. The mother traveled often with her job. Eventually she did not travel as much and I watched the little girl less and less. I lived in Anne Arundel County for one year before moving back to Columbia. I now have a son and daughter of my own. I love children and throughout the years I have obtained a lot of experience. Each child is unique and every position is different. However, specific things remain constant with me. I make sure that I provide a loving, exciting, clean, safe and stimulating environment for the children I work with. Each childcare position I have held has including driving with the child. I have a great driving record and would be more than happy to obtain a copy of my driving record.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Severn, MD

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Severn Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Severn? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Severn?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in MD? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
