My name is Nicole , or Miss. Nicky for short. I have been working with children ever since the age of fifteen when I starting babysitting for families around the neighborhood. I started off with four families with two children up to five children, with all ages from newborns to nine year olds. It was then and there I knew that my passion in life is to work with children. I furthered my horizons by working at a variety of summer camps and afterschool programs. My first summer camp was Wicomico Kids Klub in Salisbury, MD. At this day camp each week was themed, so I have an array of creative games and ideas to play with children. The ages of the children were from four to thirteen at one site- it was quite interesting to keep all the children entertained and amused with such an age difference, but I did it! So I can assure you, if there is a gap in your children ages, they will all enjoy the instructional activities and games I have for them. My next summer camp was in Newark, DE. This camp was an outdoor nature based program in which I had groups based upon male or female, with age’s six to twelve. This camp allowed me to experience outdoor education since I know can teach canoeing, archery, paddle boating, rock climbing, orienteering, different species of creek bugs and animals in the wilderness. If your children enjoy the outdoors… I am the nanny for them! Not only do I have experience at my day camps, I also have completed my student teaching internship at an elementary school and a middle school. This means I have dealt with children from many different cultures and ethnic groups. I am a personable, outgoing individual and have no problem relating to students. Many of my children cried on my last day of student teaching and said they wished I was their teacher; it was very touching for me. One of my favorite hobbies is staying physically activate, which is why I decided to major in physical education. I love sports- playing them, watching them, coaching them, and teaching them! I also love fitness and teaching the kids about healthy living and having a healthy heart. My Aunt has epilepsy and is mentally challenged, which is why one of my other passions in life is working with the special needs population. I worked for Dove Pointe in Salisbury, MD where I was a Residential Aide for a variety of children ages nine to twenty-one. I have worked with verbal’s, non-verbal’s, down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, autism, emotionally disturbed, brain trauma, etc. I have no problem working with special needs children if you have one. Overall I love working with children. As you can see, I am highly qualified, as I am sure many other candidates are. The thing that sets me apart is my personality and my interests. I am bubbly and energetic so I can keep up with your kids, I am a teacher so I can let them have fun while learning, I love the outdoors and nature so your kids will always be enjoying what the beautiful earth has to offer, and overall I will be your child’s friend while still maintaining a professional aspect.

I used to babysit for all the neighborhood moms and for the moms at the massage school I went to, I fall in love with all the kids I babysit for. Kids have always seem to put a smile on my face. I love playing outside with them do arts and crafts or helping them with their homework. Taking them to the park or museums. Fun places where they can learn new things but still be kids doing it and the mothers loved that I tired them out for bed at night.

I grew up helping to care for my younger siblings (They were 8 and 9 years younger than me). I would babysit them frequently. I was a Mother's helper when I was in middle school, with multiple families that would call me regularly. Many of them not only asking me to babysit for the night, but asking for me to accompany them on vacations to watch their children. The families I would babysit for had up to 4 children under the age of 12 in the household. In high school I took a childcare class, which is the reason I decided I wanted to work with children for the rest of my life! I am a psychology major, social welfare minor, with an education certificate. While attending UMBC, I took on a babysitting job for one of the college professors a few times a week for 3-4 hours at a time. The child was 3 months old when I started. I continued this, until my last year, when I started my internship in an elementary school for credits. I am now finishing my second year as a cecil county second grade teacher. I love this age and love working with my students. I could not imagine doing anything else with my life!

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Elkton, MD

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Elkton Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Elkton? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Elkton?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in MD? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
