My first caregiving job was for young adults with developmental disabilities & one of my non verbal clients was autistic-I was able to create a meaningful bond w: him over time. His only words spoken were ‘no’ & ‘c’ for ‘yes’. He enjoyed my cooking & would always want seconds-a favorite snack was popcorn. One day while the popcorn popped, he spoke the most I’d ever heard before, he said “poppity pop pop pop!” With a big grin-a real break through moment

This past spring I was in Spain for three months babysitting and teaching English to the three girls in my host family every day.
