A little bit about me

As a nanny, educator and health care professional, I'm happy to help a local familiy with childcare needs in These Troubled Times™. Former local nanny clients - the children - can speak for themselves about my methods if you like!

Together your kids and I will do lots of outside time, cooperative and creative play, active exploring and problem solving within a daily rhythm that builds confidence and self-management skills to recycle everywhere in life. Screens aren't my joy, as I didn't grow up with them or into them, so I don't use devices at work and your kids won't have many opportunities to use them, either, unless they're a communication tool or accommodation.

I love the work of supporting families and watching the kids amaze you every day with the newest skill they've approached or mastered. I hope you find a great fit for your childcare needs and look forward to meeting with you and your family.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Private in-home care, licensed in-home daycare, infant/toddler teacher in a licensed center, educational assistant in public schools, occupational therapy assistant in a pediatric clinic, care aide in an elder care home, housekeeper for elders, errand service, professional driver, volunteer in elementary classroom(s).

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

We do lots of outside time and adventuring, activities, basic chores - cleaning and tidying and preparing for all the adventuring and activities, creative and cooperative play, singing and dancing, and the older they get, seemingly endless negotiation. Ha!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is enjoying the sacred responsibility of providing the just-right mix of excitement, stability, warmth and challenge that inspires kids to reach, always, for the best they can do in any moment. I love this work.

My experience with special needs children...

As an educator, I worked with school-aged (K-12) kids living with autism, ADHD, developmental disabilities, and social-emotional learning deficits. Our program used a collaborative problem solving framework, stable routines, and safe spaces to build functional life skills. Students learned self-regulation, using acommodations and options in a structured environment, and a therapeutic care plan to demonstrate progress.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There's a lot of competition for favorite moment, but the five-year-old showing off his public transit know-how by describing, in tour-guide detail, how to get from home to the downtown library on a day he wanted to attend an evening event there after his mom was home was a bright spot. (His mom biked to work and the family car wasn't available; she and I both underestimated how well he'd paid attention during our many bus adventures around town.)
