The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny, to me, is creating a safe, stable, and supportive environment where the child feels understood and cared for. It’s not just about keeping them entertained—it’s about paying attention to their needs, being patient with them, and building trust over time. I also think consistency is really important, so children know what to expect and feel secure in their routine. Overall, it’s about showing up with patience, responsibility, and genuine care.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience caring for children with Autism. My approach is very individualized. I pay attention to routines, triggers, and communication styles. With children on the autism spectrum, I’ve found consistency and clear expectations make a big difference, along with creating a calm and supportive environment. Activities such as:
Sensory-friendly activities (calm play, structured tasks)
Routine-based schedules
Quiet play when overstimulated
Activities based on their specific interests

The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite experiences babysitting was with a child I cared for who was very energetic and sometimes had difficulty staying focused. I planned a “mini adventure day” to keep things engaging while still maintaining structure. We started with a simple arts and crafts activity where we made paper animals, which helped ease into the day calmly. After that, I set up a small indoor obstacle course using pillows and safe household items, which gave them a fun way to release energy.
Later, we spent time reading a short story together, and I asked them questions to keep them involved and thinking. I also incorporated a sensory-friendly break with quiet play when I noticed they were getting overstimulated. By the end of the day, we had built a really positive rhythm, and the child was both engaged and comfortable.
