A little bit about me

Hi there! My name is Lena and I'm 29. I'm personable, reliable, trustworthy, patient, flexible, creative and charismatic. For the past two years, I have been working at a daycare and I worked with all age groups (infants-4 years old). Before that, I substituted grades Pre K-4th grade in 2018. In 2011, I traveled to Cape Town, South Africa and volunteered at an elementary school. I am CPR/first aid certified and I have my 45 hours in Early Childcare Education. Additionally, I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Flagler College in Media Studies. In 2016, I worked at Walt Disney World and in 2017 I worked at Disneyland. Additionally, I was awarded Educator of the Month in August of 2022 at my most recent daycare job. I have a new job at a Montessori School starting on July 31st and am looking for some babysitting/nannying opportunities in the meantime! Fun fact: I was born on Halloween and am left-handed! I'm a writer and super creative/imaginative.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

In 2011, I traveled to Cape Town, South Africa and taught at an elementary school for two weeks. In 2018, I substituted at various elementary schools around Jacksonville (grades Pre K-4th grade). In 2021, I started working at a daycare where I earned my 45 hours in Early Childhood Education as well as my certification for CPR and First Aid. I worked with infants, one-two year olds and the four to five year olds so I'm super well-versed on childcare. Additionally, I was awarded Educator of the Month at that daycare in August of 2022.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts and crafts for sensory and fine motor skills are amazing! Anything with painting or drawing. I also love to dance and sing with them and review our numbers, ABCs, colors, shapes, etc. Reading is extremely beneficial and important as well and I have so much fun really immersing them into the book. Additionally, doing relaxing exercises like yoga or meditation is great! However, if the child just wants to sit and chat or watch some Ms. Rachel, Cocomelon, or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, then that's perfectly fine, too! Lastly, playing games outside is always fun.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me, treating the kids as if they were my own and respecting their boundaries! No matter what age we are, we all have boundaries. I love to see kids say no and tell adults how they are really feeling. It's cool to witness their development and to see how they express their emotions. Respecting them and treating them like human beings (because they are!) is vital. Implementing patience and having fun with them while making sure they are safe at all times is of the utmost importance. 0-5 are the formative years, so for those ages, I really love to partake in hands-on/sensory learning. It's awesome to help them grow emotionally and intellectually. Additionally, it's important to be vigilant and find a balance so that the kids don't think they can walk all over you! All in all, the most important part is really listening to them and making sure they are safe, comfortable and happy.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There is a girl who I've been babysitting since 2021 and to watch her grow has been incredible! I was actually her teacher at the daycare so I got to watch her grow from nearly an infant to a nearly big 3 year old! She is extremely smart, talkative and curious. When I first met her, she was not talking, but now she has a big girl bed. She says the funniest things and she makes me laugh so hard. I'm so impressed by her language development. She has a big girl bed and a baby brother coming in May. Her mom told me I can watch him as well and she told me that her daughter truly loves me. She says that I'm the only person she doesn't cry with when the parents leave to go for dinner, even over the grandparents, and that made me feel super special. We have a super close bond and I truly care about her. She loves bugs, horses and books. I always read 5-6 books to her at bedtime and she loves it. I also love to play outside with her in the yard or watch TV in their room outside!
