Every year I volunteer at JCPenney's Clothe a Child charity event around Christmas, where people such as the Bikers Against Child Abuse take a child through the store and help them find clothing in their size that will be needed for the coming season.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love watching movies, and I have no problem watching the same ones on repeat. On the other hand, television is obviously not a good constant form of entertainment for a developing mind like your child's, so, I find reading a book is a wonderful alternative to boost imagination also. Coloring books are always fun as well as some simple arts and crafts. For the older kids, a board game is great or video games if permitted by the parents. As for outdoor activities, I am more than happy to kick a ball around, and playing in a little dirt is fine by me. Going for a walk is a nice way to reset and get a chance of scenery too.
My experience with special needs children...
I have hardly any experience with special children. Though I do have good patience, I do not find with my level of experience I am the proper fit for a child in need of such attention.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I had sat down with the kids to watch Spider-Man 3, and while I was braiding the little girl's hair in front of me, her brother was explaining to me what was happening in the movie. I've seen it a hundred times, but him telling me what he understood was so cute and it made me love the movie more. He was four at the time so the conflict between the villain attacking him and why was completely lost on him, but the idea that the bad guy was attacking his favorite hero got him all fired up. How excited he was to tell me about how his hero was winning and the bad guy was losing made watching a simple movie like that so much more enjoyable. I love it when a child can really get involved with a story like that. It shows their creativity and, in this case, understanding of right and wrong.
