A little bit about me

I am a graduate of Christopher Newport University, with a B.A. in English. I have spent almost my entire life volunteering with children, both with and without special needs, as well as babysitting and nannying. Post grad I have worked professionally as a children’s swim instructor, lead infant daycare teacher, and private nanny. I am very comfortable in the kitchen, and believe good nutrition and balanced meals are essential for helping littles grow strong and confident. I actually enjoy doing laundry, and I am very Type A about organisation and cleanliness. I have experience with infants as young as three weeks and adults with special needs as old as 22 years. My preference does lean more towards infants and toddlers, but I currently nanny for middle schoolers and am comfortable with this age range as well. My ideal position would not start until the summer when I plan to relocate as my boyfriend starts grad school at UVA. I love reading, knitting, doing nails, and going for hikes!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

In college I volunteered at several different sites; a mommy & me daycare in newport news, with Special Olympics Gymnastics for three years, my final year serving on e-board, and in the NICU at Riverside.

I worked as the preschool teacher at La Petite Academy, before becoming the Lead Infant Teacher.

I worked as a children’s swim instructor through the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins.

Currently I work full time as a private nanny for twin 11 year olds and a 15 year old. Simultaneously, I babysit a now 14 month old (6+ months), a now 10 month old (9+ months), and just started with an additional family that has a 6mo, 2yr, and twin 4yr olds.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing arts and crafts, songs, playing with cars, building towers (and smashing them down), and going for walks/hikes depending on capabilities. I love the park, and am a big enjoyer of the swings!

I’m very open to doing activities and following a families schedule, or creating engaging activities that help to foster learning and confidence!

I work with all my infants and toddlers on learning some sign language so they are able to communicate their needs before they are able to voice them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

For me the most important part of being a nanny is helping the family with their needs- from the place they’re at. Families want & need a nanny for a lot of different reasons, and learning what each family needs I’ve found is very helpful for caring for their children and helping to be a part of their support system. I love working with kids and seeing them grow into themselves, but I also really love getting to become friends with the families! Two of my best friends I met from babysitting their sons! And these friendships have become very meaningful to me, and wouldn’t be possible if I didn’t share myself with the family while learning about. Anyone can watch a child, but being a nanny requires more than just WATCHING. True active engagement and caring is required for the family and the kid(s) to get the best experience possible.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for children with both physical and mental special needs, including down syndrome, autism (verbal & nonverbal), and ADHD.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment was probably the first time T signed to me, UNPROMPTED, that he wanted “more” while we were playing with his cars. He was 13 months at the time, and I had been working with him very consistently for a month and a half on learning “more,” before a surgery recovery kept me away for a month. I was worried he had forgotten what we had worked on together while I was gone, but out of nowhere while we were playing one day he signed “more.” I wasn’t fully sure I was seeing him right, so I took him to the kitchen and asked if he wanted to “eat” and he signed “more” again. I made him some greek yogurt and raspberries in a bowl, and he signed “more” AGAIN. I was beyond ecstatic to realise he not only retained what we had worked on together, but also LEARNED how to USE what we had worked on to help communicate his needs! We were both verb excited for him to eat that yogurt bowl haha!

Hi! I just finished my 2nd year in nursing school at UVA and I'm looking for childcare jobs over the summer.

Through my program I am certified in infant and pediatric CPR, in addition to first aid and choking prevention.

I've babysat since I was 14 and spent last summer as a camp counselor! I have experience working with children 9 months to 13 years old. I'm also working at a church nursery over the summer on Sundays.

I love to read, journal, be outside, and spend time with my friends! I love children and hope to one day be a pediatric nurse.

Hi. I am a former paramedic and mom of four grown children. I value safety, fun, and respecting the individual needs of the children in the families I care for. I prefer a screen free environment where children are encouraged to explore and learn. I am very laid back and choose to solve problems by slowing down and listening more. I look forward to talking to you and learning more about your family.

Part-Time Nanny Available in Charlottesville, VA: Lacy T.

Hi,
I’m a mom to 4 kids that are all now currently in college or graduated. I’ve nannied for several families as I’ve raised my kids. I’m now an empty nester trying to ease back into the work world. My husband and I own our own business. I would like to find a part time job so that I can also continue to help with our business. I have references available from the families I worked for in the past. I enjoy anything Hokie sports related. I’m a Radford University graduate but my husband and all four kids are Virginia tech alumni or students. My favorite things are spending time with my kids. We have three dogs that make me happy. Our business is in agriculture so our family enjoys most things relating to farming.

Alexis M. - Seeking Work in Charlottesville

Full-Time Nanny Available in Charlottesville, VA: Alexis M.

Hi! My name is Alexis. I have a 7 month old daughter and a 19 month old daughter. They both attend a daycare. I’ve been an infant/toddler teacher for about 6 years now. What I enjoy most about working with infants is being able to help with their milestones/seeing their milestones, encouraging to do tummy time and sensory activities. What I enjoy most about working with toddlers is all the energy they have, wanting to be more hands on with activities, more interested in learning, reading books and singing songs!
