More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I babysat off and on from 12-18. After graduating in 2013, I worked for BOLD, which was a program after school M-F till 5:30 and also throughout the summer as well, that was funded through the City of Ephrata (where I grew up). Then after a little break while going to school, I worked for 21st Century in the Ephrata School District, a Federal Grant program that was also an after school program, and ran about 6 weeks through the summer. During my last year at 21st, I also para subbed during the school day at Columbia Ridge Elementary. In 2017, I left 21st to go to beauty school to study to become an Esthetician. I became licensed in early 2018, and by September, I had my own little business. During Covid I was shut down for eight months and during shut down, I got a job to nanny one on one my cousin's daughter, which started as once a week but by the end of almost my 4th year with her, it was several days a week.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Anything outside! Bikes, scooters, chalk, water play in the summer! I love reading to kids and would never turn down a fort build. I'm also crafty and enjoy a craft and/or color sesh regularly. I am also a fan of movies and when I was a kid, I loved to act out movies like Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin, etc. so pretend play is my jam. You also can never go wrong with some card games or board games as well!
The most important part about being a nanny...
This is kind of a hard question to answer, only because I feel like it is a loaded question. I think the most important part about being a nanny is respect...respect for the parents that are trusting you to take care of their child(ren). Respect for also the household that you are going into to take care of the kids, and the rules/environment that every house has.
My experience with special needs children...
When I was working for the after school program, I worked one on one with this boy who had Cerebral Palsy, and also some autistic children here and there as well, but most experience is with the young man who had Cerebral Palsy.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I've been lucky that the people who I have babysat for or nannied for, I've gotten close to so it's not unusual for me to be invited to family parties or memorable events. At one event, one of the little girls I cared for, walked to me mid party and told me she was hungry. Yes her parents could have gotten food for her since I was not there to work, but I didn't mind grabbing it for her so they could also enjoy the party as well. That's a memorable moment for me because I saw it as in a room full of people that this girl loved and adored, she knew that she could come to me for help and knew I would help her, which of course made me feel good as well.
Also, one of the kids starting calling me Ta Ta (no idea where it came from) and who doesn't love a cute nickname from a toddler?!
