More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
My first significant nannying experience began at 18, caring for 10-year-old triplets. This experience honed my ability to manage multiple children simultaneously, ensuring each received individual attention while fostering a supportive environment. At 20, my sisters made me an aunt, which provided me with invaluable hands-on experience caring for infants to children up to 5 years old. I regularly helped and gained a deep understanding of newborn and toddler needs, from feeding and diaper changes to early developmental activities. This family experience expanded my childcare skills and reinforced my commitment to creating a nurturing environment. Two summers ago, I nannied for two families simultaneously. For one family, I cared for boys aged 6 and 9, promoting non-screen activities. For the other family, I looked after a boy and girl aged 18 months and 3 years, focusing on early development, safety, and nurturing their milestones.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I absolutely love engaging children in activities that promote learning, creativity, and fun. I believe in the importance of fresh air and physical activity, so I enjoy walks, trips to the park, and outdoor scavenger hunts. Exploring the natural world, observing wildlife, and playing outdoor games are fantastic ways to stimulate curiosity. Creativity is essential for a child's development, so I love planning arts and crafts projects like painting, drawing, building with clay, etc. These activities allow children to express themselves artistically, develop fine motor skills, and take pride in their creations. Storytelling is another favorite; I enjoy reading to children and encouraging them to create their own stories, which enhances their narrative skills and boosts their imagination.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny, in my view, is the opportunity to positively influence a child's life during their formative years. Beyond providing basic care, I believe it's crucial to create a nurturing and supportive environment where children feel safe, loved, and encouraged to explore their interests and abilities. Building trust and strong relationships with both the children and their families is essential for effective childcare. It's about being a role model, fostering a sense of curiosity and wonder, and helping children develop important life skills such as empathy, resilience, and problem-solving. Every day as a nanny is a chance to make a meaningful impact on a child's growth and development, and I take great pride and responsibility in that role.
My experience with special needs children...
I have significant experience working with special needs children, which has been incredibly rewarding and enriching. Throughout middle school and high school, I was actively involved in peer facilitating, where I worked directly in special needs classrooms and joined students for elective periods. This hands-on involvement allowed me to build strong relationships and develop a deep understanding of the unique needs and strengths of each child. Additionally, I was a part of Best Buddies, a program dedicated to creating opportunities for one-on-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These experiences have equipped me with the skills, patience, and empathy required to support and nurture special needs children effectively, ensuring they feel valued and included in all activities.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite nanny moments happened when I became extremely bonded with an 18-month-old I was caring for. We had spent so much time together, building a close and loving relationship. One day, he surprised me by saying my name for the first time. Though he pronounced it as "Mare Mare," it was a heartwarming and unforgettable moment that made me incredibly happy. Hearing him say my name was a beautiful reminder of the special connection we had formed and the impact I had on his early development. Moments like these make being a nanny truly rewarding and reinforce my passion for childcare.
