More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
8 years teaching kindergartners on the Autism Spectrum state side, 7 years teaching children Conflict Resolution internationally, 15+years experience working as a private nanny/babysitter; experience in working with children/families who are developmentally challenged ( both physically and cognitively), being raised multilingual, multiples, homes led by single parents and foster parents, multigenerational, multi- children households and families with pets. From assisting in the raising of my many younger siblings, spending over 15 years working in the field of education, fostering my Goddaughter from age(s) 2 to 7, successfully raising my own 2 children, to over 15+ years experience working as a nanny, there are not many child- related situations or challenges that I have not experienced and conquered : ).
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy spending time with children doing arts and crafts projects, fort-making, playing dress up, playing make-believe, singing, dancing to music, reading out loud, working on puzzles, blowing bubbles, creating homemade science experiments, walking 4 legged friends, supervising play dates, being a cheerleader at group activities/lessons, telling stories, going to the playground or park, going for walks and exploring the neighborhood, puddle jumping, doing (age appropriate) cooking projects, learning something new, helping with homework, giving hugs, just being silly and definitely ANYTHING that exercises the imagination! Although deference is always given to the parents, I am not a big fan of television or non-educational screen time... The real world around us is just too exciting!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of my role Is to be as loving, supportive, respectful, compassionate and responsible as I can with young people in my care; I believe that modeling one's own behavior as a example is essential. My key components for success are implementing thoughtfully created activities, always keeping an educational perspective, creating structured and consistent schedules as well as the use of gentle, age appropriate discipline, focusing on teaching self control, critical thinking (predicted reactions and consequences) and creative problem solving (In my experience using tactics such as isolation or corporal punishment as disciplinary tools are always less effective than hoped for, and teach very little in encouraging permanent behavior changes). It is my intention through my work to help create little future citizens of humanity, working with my charges to blossom and be their best selves. As well as the obvious, to keep them happy and safe!
My experience with special needs children...
I have extensive experience caring for prematurely born multiples, children on the autism spectrum, babies/children with developmental struggles and cognitive challenges (I have 6 years of experience working directly with Early Intervention in-home specialists/physical therapists), children with language delays and, youngsters struggling with ADD/ADHD concerns. Hey, how bland and boring would the world be if we were all just basically the same? Remember , It takes ALL the colors to make a rainbow 🌈!
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments nannying happened years ago when I was working with an Israeli family with twins. Their language development was severely delayed due to impaired cognitive development (a result of premature birth) and struggles from being raised bilingual (YOU try and learn 2 new languages simultaneously!). Their mama had a severe case of postpartum depression, spending little time with them in their first several months. Bonding with her new girls was definitely a real challenge. I worked hard with the girls daily on teaching them how to say "ima" (mama in Hebrew), hoping to help her feel more connected. One morning I arrived and Anat (the mama) met me at the door, teary-eyed, telling me that for the first time that morning when she went into the nursery she was met with little shouts of "IMA!! IMA!! IMA!!". It made my day that I was able to help foster her relationships with her new babies :). This became a pivotal moment in pulling her out of her clinical depression.

I’m a new mom in March 2022 to a baby girl. I’ve always loved caring for babies and children. I’ve had a 2 year job in a daycare taking care of 3 month-8 year old children as well as working at the boys and girls club for nearly a year taking care of children 6-13 years of age. I’m great at multitasking, patient, flexible, good cook;; I am preferably trying to find a live in nanny position where I can bring my daughter along with me. .

I have babysat for over 6 years and have taught preschool and toddler age for 3 years. Working with children has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Creating open-ended activities and teaching through play is a very rewarding experience that I have lots of work with.
Part-Time Child Care Provider Available in Eugene, OR: Ruby G.
Hi, my name is Ruby Gibson. I'm currently a full-time student at the Clark Honors College studying human physiology with a double minor in food studies and biology. I'm from Scappoose, Oregon, and spent my high school years nannying for a family with a young boy as well as taking care of my younger sibling and cousins. I am more than excited to be taking care of children again. Although I don't have current CPR or first aid certification I am undertaking the course during my winter break in order to be a more versatile caretaker.
