A little bit about me

Hi, my name is Melanie, and caring for children is something that truly brings me joy. As a Mexican Latina who grew up in a hardworking community, I understand the importance of patience, responsibility, and creating a nurturing space where children feel safe and valued.

I have experience as a summer counselor working with 2-3-year-olds, where I helped little ones explore, learn, and grow in a supportive environment. This experience have taught me how to listen, encourage, and adapt to the unique needs of every child.

Currently, I’m a first-year student at the University of Chicago, studying Theater and Performance Studies with the dream of becoming a dance therapist. Movement and creativity are central to how I connect with kids, whether through storytelling, games, or dance. I believe that every child deserves a caregiver who sees and supports them fully, and I would love the opportunity to provide that for your family.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where children feel loved, valued, and encouraged to grow. It’s not just about supervising—it’s about truly engaging with kids, understanding their needs, and fostering their creativity, confidence, and emotional well-being.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was when I was working with a 2-year-old who was initially very shy and hesitant to engage. Over time, I introduced dance and movement games, letting them twirl, stomp, and jump to different rhythms. One day, they suddenly grabbed my hands, laughed, and started making up their own little dance moves. Seeing their confidence and joy grow in that moment was so special—it reminded me of how powerful movement and play can be in helping kids feel comfortable, expressive, and free.

I have experience working with children of different ages. I worked at a daycare in Austin, Texas, where I cared for children between 1 and 2 years old. In addition, I worked privately with two families: one with a 6-month-old baby and another with a little girl who was almost 2 years old.

Spanish is my native language. If it would be of interest to your family, I would be happy to expose your child to the Spanish language through everyday activities and interactions.
I moved to Chicago about a month ago and I am currently looking for a family with whom I can build a positive and trusting working relationship.
