In high school, I worked with autistic children and adults at Independent Peer Socialization Training Program (IPSTP). I interacted with developmentally disabled clients to model age-appropriate skills and behavior. Specific, measurable, time-limited goals and objectives were designed for each client in order to pinpoint and address specific deficiencies. Emphasis was placed on the acquisition of social and independent living skills.

An autistic 10-year-old child loved sound, so I took him to parks and on walks to explore places he could use his voice and clapping in tunnels and caves. He couldn't speak with words, only sounds, but the joyful look in his eyes when it would echo was wonderful. I feel he was really expressing himself. I'll never forget him.
