A little bit about me

I am a college graduate who has been working as a babysitter since I was about 13 years old. Even before that, I have always had a natural knack for caretaking, and I've always loved playing games, reading stories, singing songs, and doing art projects with kids. I have Early Childhood classroom teaching experience that allowed me to gain integral tools, ideas, activities, and systems. I was able to soak up a lot of this knowledge from the Early Childhood educational professionals that served as my mentors throughout the school year, and I have found much of it to be immensely useful when working with children outside of the classroom setting as well. Additionally, I am organized, motivated, creative, supportive, trustworthy, and caring. I truly do have a strong passion for working with kids. I aim to encourage all of the children I work with to challenge themselves to do hard things, to develop and celebrate a dedication to their hopes and dreams, and to inspire others to do the same.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

During my first year of teaching in a dual-language kindergarten class, I learned so much about what it takes to effectively lead a classroom of young learners. Along with behavior management techniques and various ways of adapting to the needs of individual students, I quickly uncovered the professional strengths that I bring to the classroom. My personality and sensitive nature allowed me to very quickly form meaningful connections with the students, fostering a sense of trust and understanding, while simultaneously maintaining respect for classroom roles. Despite the initial language difference between myself and many of my students, it quickly became clear that they felt safe and secure in my presence. I attribute many of my successes as an educator to my deeply empathetic, understanding, and caring nature. I am extremely passionate about helping students thrive by developing confidence in themselves, their abilities, and their futures.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

In my previous childcare experiences I have consistently implemented activities that utilize exploratory play. I have seen the benefits of this first hand, specifically the development of problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and increased self-esteem, to name a few. I favor this philosophy because of the sense of autonomy and freedom it gives the child—something that, in my opinion, is extremely important to a child’s development of self. Additionally, I often employ my artistic skills and knowledge to collaborate with children to further explore creativity. I have found, again and again, that sharing my passion for art and music with the children I work with is incredibly rewarding and advantageous.

My experience with special needs children...

When I was in High School, I volunteered in an elementary level special education summer school classroom for several years. I also have experience babysitting for students with special needs. I have worked with students who were on the Autism spectrum, and through these experiences I have learned many techniques and strategies to best support children with different learning needs. This past year, I worked in a kindergarten class that had several students with learning differences. Oftentimes, I would be asked to work one-on-one with these students, providing extra support during lessons, transition times, and specials.

Kiara T. - Seeking Work in Brooklyn

Live-In Full-Time Nanny Available in Brooklyn, NY: Kiara T.

Hi, my name is Kiara, my passion for caring for kids came around 2010 when my first cousin was born. At that time, I was young myself, but I was determined to show everyone I had what it took to nurture a baby. I did everything from changing his diaper, making his bottles, bath time, and giving him lots of snuggles and nourishment. I loved caring for him. Since then, I’ve been the “babysitter” of the family until I reached a solid age to step foot into the childcare world. My first job with kids was at a day care center as a lead teacher. It was the best summer of my life. I enjoyed watching and helping the little ones reach their milestones and just seeing a smile on their faces. I am a good role model because I inspire children to make good lifestyle choices, I also have a bright and positive attitude. I am a very open, honest, and trustworthy person. I always encourage people to be themselves no matter what. I'm very open-minded and all ears to all situations.
