More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been a day camp counselor (Summers [phone number hidden], and 2019), an after-school teacher (2008), and a full-time middle school teacher for two years. I also served for two years in AmeriCorps as a tutor and mentor for students in grades 1-8. I have extensive nanny and babysitting experience, starting at 12 and continuing professionally through college, graduate school, and adulthood. I have cared for infants, toddlers, grade schoolers, and middle schoolers. I am comfortable supervising homework, meals, and outings; managing bedtimes; providing infant care (bottle feeding, diapering); and leading creative play. I have worked with students with special needs, particularly those with ADHD and ASD. Open to traveling with families, comfortable with animals (particularly dogs; I'm allergic to cats), and able to do light housekeeping.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Crafts, reading, nature walks, imaginary play, writing stories, music and dance, helping with homework/studying, swimming, excursions (school events, cultural festivals, museums, etc.), board games...the sky's the limit! I am not the most athletic human, but I will happily watch/do my best to participate!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being a nurturing, consistent, and engaging adult presence in a child's life matters a great deal to me. My childhood nanny, Dana, cared for my sisters and me for many years, and my family is still close to her today! She and her husband came to my wedding in 2023, and I've been lucky enough to get to know her three children. While I know not everyone is looking for a nanny to become part of their family, my goal is to be a positive and fun caretaker who functions as an extension of the parents/primary caregiver. I will respect your rules and boundaries and maintain an open, mature line of communication about your child(ren), their needs, and their progress. I am hands-on, and you'll never find me staring at my phone or leaving kids to their own devices. Whether through unstructured play or structured activities, I believe kids deserve an adult who is focused on them as much as possible, adjusting for age and autonomy.
My experience with special needs children...
I have taught students with ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, and other conditions. I currently volunteer with neurodivergent adults. I don't have extensive experience caring for a child with special needs privately, but I am a quick learner and am pursuing a career in social work.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I nannied for two girls the year Frozen came out, and without fail, they watched it once a week, every week, for a year. When we weren't watching it, they were reenacting "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" I loved seeing their ceaseless joy as they discovered a story about sisters who are powerful and share a strong bond!
