The most important part about being a nanny...
I think it's important to remember that just because they're children, it doesn't mean they are half a person or not capable of wonderful things. It's important to encourage curiosity and understand that they're learning their emotions and how to live in the world. Some days will be big emotional days, others will be filled with silly questions. The best part about being a nanny is encouraging that and leading with empathy to help them grow into great people.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked with several campers at Camp Kesem who had special needs and other children with learning disabilities. I've completed proper training through the Kesem organization, which has taught me how I can best assist a child with special needs.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I love when I get to really encourage a kid to use their imagination. I've watched and taught swim lessons to two brothers who live on a farm for a while now. One day when it was a slow day in summer we pretended the old tractors were airplanes. We played pilots and airplanes all day. The mom later told me that despite that being the first time they've ever done that, it became a staple in their playtime routine that "Miss. Natalie taught them."
