From my experience I learned what matters most is nurturing and safety. It’s important to me that I build a trusting relationship with the child. Even if that means going the extra mile for a smile, getting out of my comfort zone, and being vulnerable at times. Connection is important in child care and growth in my eyes.

My last baby was a girl only 7 months. Everyday no matter sun or rain we would have our daily walk to the park near her house. This particular day we laid out a blanket under a tree with some toys and snacks. As we’re enjoying our time an energetic wiener dog off leash says hi to us very kindly. My girl has never seen a dog and is blown away. Her eyes get so big and she’s bouncing up and down with excitement while screaming happily. The owner calls the dog back and my girl was determined to follow that dog. Once the dogs leaves with all her might that baby girl attempts to crawl after the dog! That was the first time I’ve seen her be motivated by something other than snacks. I cheered her on as I watched her get more excited. My favorite part was watching it click in her brain that she could do it. She was small but capable. The more I cheered the faster she got. Of course she didn’t catch the dog, but since then she’s been crawling and barking all over the house.
