A little bit about me

Hello! My nickname is Nina. I have a lots of experience with children, working as a life skills teacher, including work with children who do not like school and/or have special needs. My background is in mental health with strong educational and behavioral components. Also, my youngest child just recently left home and I am a proud mama! I am good at meeting children where they are and encouraging their own talents and potential along with having fun! Safety is always priority and I will be respectful of the family's home and their lifestyles and goals for their children. I am told I have a calming presence . Some of the many things I enjoy doing with children are reading stories, cooking simple dishes, going to the park or to visit petting zoos, playing games and conducting fun science experiments, but most importantly, learning about what they enjoy and how they see the word. If you think I may be a good match for your family, please reach out to chat.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One moment I clearly recall is while working on a community project with about 12 kids. I had a new kid who thought he did not belong in our group. He gave me a difficult time every opportunity. It was a few weeks in of him telling me that everything we did was stupid and did not matter to him, with the attitude that he was grown and too cool. It had recently snowed. We went out to take care of our chickens. He had his hands in his pockets with a scowl on his face. One snow ball thrown and by the end of our outing, he was making snow angels and singing, "let it snow" with the other kids. He was a group leader after that. Sometimes kids need space and safety to warm up to new situations and people. I have patience for these things.
