For awhile when I was involved in high school soccer, I would volunteer to assist the youth center with after school activities. I spent a lot of time working with students- helping out with homework questions, teaching new ball skills, giving advice on personal situations, and overall just being a person in their lives when many didn’t have one, who they knew they could lean on when needed and put some trust in without bias. This experience allowed me to grow and learn a lot more about children, and realize how big of an impact you could have on someone’s life, especially a child who looks up to you. I gained a lot of knowledge and feel that the time I spent with these children helped me be able to better understand them today.
