The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my absolute favorite classroom memories still makes me smile years later. In 2021, during one of my spoken language lessons—a time I love to help my students expand their vocabularies—I was working with Lucy, a sweet and clever 4-year-old.
We were going through vocabulary cards, and I held up a picture of a terracotta pot, asking her, “What do you think this is called?” Without missing a beat, Lucy proudly exclaimed, “Oh! That’s a DIRT BOWL.”
It was the most hilariously accurate, perfectly kid-brain response I’ve ever heard. Honestly, she wasn’t wrong! My co-teachers and I were so charmed that from that day forward, “dirt bowl” became our unofficial name for all terracotta pots.
Moments like that remind me why I love working with children—their perspectives are creative, unfiltered, and endlessly endearing. Lucy’s “dirt bowl” will always be a treasured gem in my teacher brain.
