Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been a visiting Spanish teacher to 3rd grade students, a student teacher to 9th through 12th grade students, as well as a playgroup lead for a program at my local library that focused on second language exposure and cultural exchange and a counselor for six years at a teen leadership program for grades 4-8. I also grew up in a family that cared for foster children and aided my mother in caring for all of my foster siblings, as we were an emergency placement household that took in many short term infants and toddlers, often at the same time. I am also an incredibly proud and involved aunt to two boys, a two-month-old and a two-year-old.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I really enjoy encouraging any kind of creative play. I have an educational background in early childhood development and language acquisition and pride myself on finding unique ways to connect each child's specific interests to whatever educational or developmental goal is set. I personally enjoy going to theater productions and museums, crafting, spending time at the park or playground but spending time doing whatever your child enjoys best will lead me in supporting their passions and individuality, which is truly the most rewarding part of the job. It is also a great way for me to possibly discover a new hobby myself!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is an appreciation for what children can teach you. This appreciation often requires an open mind and lots of flexibility. I truly believe that there is something children know about the world that we have forgotten. I am a strong believer that there is no one way to do anything and I have learned so much from both the children I have cared for, as well as their families, by being open and appreciative to the way that they do things or tackle adversity. Children need to feel safe and supported in their explorations in order to stay curious and open minded in their adulthood.
My experience with special needs children...
I have classroom experience with two students with autism and one student with PANDAS but have not yet cared for a child with special needs as their primary caregiver. Though I am extremely willing to learn and put in dedicated time outside of work studying and/ or gaining needed or preferred certifications.
