More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I worked as an aid at Rainbow Montessori. A Nanny for the Knott's, a family of two for about a year. As well as a Nanny for the Lazatin's, a family of two for a little over 3 years currently.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Outdoor play, Indoor play, arts & crafts, going to the theatre, trips to the shopping mall, and much more!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Creating a relationship with the parents that allows for open an honest communication about what is the best route for the child(ren). As a caregiver, we are with the child(ren) long enough to develop an understanding of ways that can add to the parents goal of discipline and care. Creating that connection is so important because it allows for the child(ren) to be taught the foundations of behavior and actions even when a parent isn't around. Vice versa, if the childcare provider is able to implement guidelines for behavior they know compliment the goals of the parents, the child(ren) will reflect the behavior they've been taught even if the care taker isn't around.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for both high functioning and low functioning children on the spectrum.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The youngest child I currently care for was a bit behind developmentally. He was 5 when I first began working with him and was unable to read as yet. We would work on spelling as well as writing very often, and one of our main times spent together outside of activities would be us practicing to spell/read our words. He progressed beautifully and now reads and writes on his own without as much strain or hesitation. He still gets frustrated when it becomes overwhelming, but he handles it so much better and you can really see the effort he puts into sounding out his words and trying to improve his literacy. Watching him spell one of our tough words on his own and begin to read chapter books. Just knowing where he started and seeing how far he's come has been my favorite thing.
