A little bit about me

My name is Ramzie Chouman and I am currently a senior at Montclair State University, studying for my BA in Medical Humanities, while also earning a minor in Psychology. The field I am pursuing is Occupational Therapy, which I will start in the Fall of 2021. I am the oldest of 4, only girl, taking care of my 3 younger brothers for as long as I can remember. Aside from that, I have been engaged with children for almost 10 years now. I've volunteered at a children's specialized hospital, working alongside special needs children through occupational therapy programs. I am also the head coach for a K-2nd grade track team at my elementary school. I have been babysitting children for years, as well.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Throughout my undergrad semesters, I became a student teacher's assistant for children aged between 12 weeks and 5 years old at Ben Samuels Children's Center at Montclair State University. I assisted teachers in classrooms with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. I supervised children in the classroom and helped the teacher in charge with daily activities. With infants, I changed diapers, fed them, put them down for naps, and played with them. With toddlers, I changed diapers of some kids who required it, helped kids with snack/lunch time, played indoors/outdoors, did activities in classroom for learning and/or entertainment purposes. With preschoolers, I encouraged them while doing class activities. I also accompanied them to wherever they needed to go if teacher was busy in the classroom. My job also included maintaining the whole class on my own if the teacher needed to step out.

My experience with special needs children...

I cared for a 4 year old autistic child, Mohammed, and his sister, Nancy, 7 years old. Four days a week, I cooked them breakfast and assisted throughout the house. I would care for Mohammed, in ways he couldn’t do himself. I changed his diapers, played with him, as well as with his sister. I would help Nancy with her homework.
I was also a volunteer at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside. I worked alongside occupational therapists. I was involved in variety of social programs that enabled me to be one-on-one with children and assist them with the activities being done within the programs.
