A little bit about me

Hi my name is Samara Harris, I am currently a college student at St. John’s University, where I am pursuing a degree in biology. It’s an exciting journey for me because it’s all leading toward my ultimate goal of becoming a doctor.
A little about myself, swimming has always been a big part of my life—not just as a hobby but as a way to give back. As a lifeguard and swim instructor, I’ve taught people from 4 months to 80 years old how to feel safe and confident in the water. It’s been incredibly rewarding to help others conquer their fears and achieve their goals.
When I’m not in the pool, I explore my creative side through art and photography, which allow me to see the world in new ways.
I love working with children because of their curiosity and potential. My experiences have shaped me into someone who values compassion, creativity, and understanding.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love engaging kids in activities that are fun, creative, and sometimes even a little educational! Indoors, arts and crafts are always a hit—whether it’s painting, making friendship bracelets, or creating fun DIY projects. Kid-friendly science experiments are another favorite. Simple activities like making baking soda volcanoes or slime not only keep kids entertained but also spark curiosity about the world around them.
Museums are another go-to, especially interactive ones where kids can explore and learn hands-on. Great for mixing fun with encouraging discovery.
For outdoor activities, soccer is fantastic for teamwork. I also enjoy reading with kids, whether it’s outside under a tree or during a quiet moment indoors. Sharing stories helps spark their imagination and creates meaningful connections.
These activities are not just entertaining but also help kids develop creativity, teamwork, and a love for learning.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being a nanny is about creating a safe, nurturing space where children can grow, learn, and express themselves. With my background as a lifeguard, tutor, and someone who loves creativity, I believe in blending safety, fun, and education. I encourage creativity through arts and crafts, science experiments, and storytelling, while ensuring kids feel secure and protected. As a tutor, I know every child learns differently, so I tailor activities to their needs. Building trust and offering emotional support is key to helping kids thrive. Most importantly, I work closely with parents to ensure a balanced routine while leaving room for fun and spontaneity. Being a nanny means guiding children, fostering their development, and being a positive role model every day.

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve cared for kids with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and sensory disorders.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite and funniest memories comes from summer camp, working with a group of 5-year-olds at the pool. There was a little boy, about 4 years old, who was absolutely terrified of water. He’d sit at the edge, holding onto his towel like it was a superhero cape, refusing to even dip a toe in. After some gentle encouragement—and a lot of silly games—I got him to join me for a “treasure hunt,” where I pretended to find “hidden jewels” in the shallow end. At first, he cautiously held my hand, but before long, he was splashing around, laughing, and even trying to float! By the end of the week, he was racing his friends across the pool and yelling, “Look, I’m a fish!”. It was so rewarding to see his confidence bloom. Moments like that remind me how a little patience, creativity, and encouragement can turn fear into joy—and make lasting memories for both of us.
