A little bit about me

Hello! I am Samia, a sophomore in college majoring in Economics and Political Science, through the Honors Program at Pacific Lutheran University. My hobbies include, cooking, any sort of team sport, running, and sketching. I have worked with all types of kids including neurodivergent children and infants. While I have only done so through volunteer work at daycares, churches, and school, I would love to make it a seasonal career. I am also a volunteer fire fighter for my county with fire safety certifications as well as CPR and First Aid Certifications. As for meal prepping, I have done so for senior citizens and for my prior workplaces. I have cleaning and hospitality experience through my current employer Pyramid Hospitality, and feel very confident to keep your home pristine if you require those services. Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to teach and learn with kids. I have quite to love for school and have always taken on tutoring and teaching positions as soon as I was able. I am also a collegiate athlete and know how to keep kids active and having fun. I have a background in music and art and could take on a tutor role in these areas as well if needed. I truly love watching kids be creative through play and academics and know so many different strategies to help them grow no matter their individual learning styles.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I'll always believe that nannying is not just about care, but helping your child flourish. I bring a love for growth and creativity above simply keeping your child safe and fed. Being a child, while seemingly easy because of less worries comes with it's own struggles of having so many thoughts and not as many tools to understand life. When I was growing up, I remember nannies being people who helped me stay a kid and encouraging me to learn and explore curiosity. I will always go above and beyond for those kiddos who have a lot going on in their brain. I don't just want to be someone to make sure they go to bed on time (This is crucial, however) , but someone who listens to all the magical ideas of a kid and make things happen.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with special needs children before in all my volunteering experiences and am fully prepared to customize my approach to each child so that I may best accommodate their needs for play and education. I do not get frustrated and have dealt with all sorts of folks with special needs including teens and adults as well. I am never emotionally swayed or frustrated and am quick to adapt and find a way to understand and help your child. I have dealt with every type of outburst and feel comfortable finding the cause of said outburst as well as a productive and proactive resolution.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I once had a child that got so frustrated because they were always bored. We had rode tricycles, played with Legos, had an impromptu dance battle, started a watercolor paintaing, and a pillow fort, and nothing could keep the little one from getting frustrated. I had come to realize that the kiddo wasn't just bored, but unable to express all the ideas in their head into an activity they knew about. So, we created a new one! After a heart to heart about their dreams and ideas, we came up with an awesome game- Dentist Princesses. A fantastical world of fashion, tea, and healthcare roleplaying. Sometimes a child has so many things they want to do at once, that their excitement becomes frustration when not adaqautely expressed through play. As adults we often combine our hobbies through things such as multi-genre literature and media, but for a child who may not know how to scratch the itch of being a princess and dental hygienist, some help and nanny-child collaboration may be needed. :)
