My experience with special needs children...
I’ve grown up around the special needs community, which has really shaped how I show up as a caregiver. My older sister is now a Speech-Language Pathologist, and from a young age I was around her work with children of all abilities. It helped me understand early on how important inclusion, patience, and representation are—I even wrote a poem about it as a kid because it meant so much to me. As I’ve gained more childcare experience, I’ve worked with a wide range of children, including those with special needs. I always make it a priority to create an environment where every child feels included, supported, and celebrated. I meet kids where they’re at, adapt to their individual needs, and make sure no one ever feels left out. I truly enjoy building connections with each child and helping them feel confident, understood, and excited to be themselves.
