I took care of my neighbors daughter, who is autistic non functioning, she would often have moments of lashing out and slight slapping. I would calmly distract and use healthy methods to lesson the situation and offer up snacks, and use strong but kind communication and gentle physical behavior as an example to be set for her.

Crafts, singing, dancing, homework, art, outdoor play, board games, baking and cooking.

Engaging and communicating with the children as well as the parents. Finding a healthy middle of helping the kids feel comfortable and understood but making sure that all the parents desires for their child are met.

My younger brother who is 9 years younger than myself has autism and I have grown up not only helping him, but being around kids of all different functionality and spectrum through babysitting.
