A little bit about me

I am an experienced Waldorf Preschool teacher, infant nanny and developmental movement specialist. I am lightheartedly called the “baby whisperer” in my Waldorf community, innately understanding how to support, connect and co-regulate with infants and toddlers.

My early profession was in dance and performance transitioning to somatic movement education and bodywork and finally to Early Childhood education. I am entering a graduate program for family counseling at George Fox University this fall in order to weave all of my professional skills together as a family therapist.
Because my teenage daughter will be abroad next school year, I have a wider availability that might allow me to support your family as a live-in infant nanny during rh 26/27 school year. My classes are held Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9-12 and occasionally during each semester on Fridays and Saturdays so these are my upcoming schedule limitations.

Warmly,
Shannon Hallberg

"Both of my children spent significant time in Shannon's care over the years. As a former professional nanny and now mental health professional I feel confident saying that her skill set and presence are unparalleled in the field. You would truly be hard-pressed to find another nanny with Shannon's aesthetic creativity, knowledge about motor growth and development, and deep reverence for children. Her grounding in Waldorf rhythms and developmental somatics always made me feel that my kids were getting the best and most holistic care when I couldn't be with them. Shannon is such a nurturing soul and I would hire her again in an instant."

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have trained in a Waldorf Preschool for 3 years and was a lead Preschool teacher for 4 years. I have provided nanny services in NYC to grade school age children and toddlers, nanny services in Oregon to infants and toddlers and have held an in-home nursery program for one year - Nest Day Nursery. Instagram, @nestdaynursery.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Being outside is almost always the best choice. Nature is the best guide. Otherwise, I lean strongly into Waldorf Early Childhood principles that home life is the best model for the littles - create a simple, healthy daily rhythm and let the children flow in and out of practical work (helping with dishes, folding, sweeping, etc) with play, unmanaged, self-guided play.

With infants, I really follow their lead, spending time with them in their movement development, time outside, time for nourishment and abundant time for sleep.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Having a background of knowledge related to child-development, experience working with children held together with respect and adaptability to honor each unique family process. We all parent differently and each family culture is unique. I won’t be the right match for every family but for those with whom I connect, my desire is to hold their unique process with appreciation and care.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for one 9 year old boy with fragile X syndrome for one year and another boy with autism for one evening. I am absolutely comfortable supporting littles with special needs, however I limit myself to the littles in this time of my life.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Well, there are honestly too many to count or even remember so I will share the most recent- upon arrival at the family home where I work this week, the 2 year old boy runs right up to me calling”Shay-Shay”, his name for me. Reached for me to hold him and cuddles deeply into my shoulder. It’s these connections of love and care that keep me supporting children and families.
Now that we are culturally more separate from extended family, I relish being that extra Nanna in the house to bring care to the child and peace to the home.
