A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Skyler Clarkson. I am a senior Theater and Secondary Education major at the University of Indianapolis.

For the last four years as part of my education degree I have been required to spend time in classrooms across the secondary grade range. I have observed students, interacted and bonded with them, guided and supported them in their educational goals, and of course planned lessons and taught them. I also have experience working with younger children via camp counseling this summer. caring for children between 4 and 10 with disabilities. In this role, I played with the campers, assisted them with various tasks, and helped to plan various enrichment activities for them throughout the day.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Most of experience with working with children comes as part of my education degree. For the last four years,I have been required to spend time in classrooms across the secondary grade range (6-12th). In this role, I have observed students, interacted and bonded with them, guided and supported them in their educational goals, and of course planned lessons and taught them. Outside of my direct involvement in the classroom, I have also been educated in several matters of child development and psychology.

In addition to this secondary education experience, I also have experience working with younger children as well. This last summer, I was a camp counselor at Camp Ability with Easterseals Crossroads, specifically caring for children between 4 and 10 with physical, intellectual, and emotional disabilities. In this role, I played with the campers, supported and guided them, assisted them with various tasks, and helped to plan various enrichment activities for them throughout the day.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I would highly enjoy planning activities both inside and outside the home forchildren to participate in, like board games, arts and crafts, visits to local parks and pools, and perhaps even visits to museums and theaters, depending on parent ability to cover said activities. I'm also more than happy to plan other activities out with you, as well!

My experience with special needs children...

This last summer, I worked as a camp counselor with Easterseals Crossroads, specifically for children between the ages of 4 and 10 with various social, emotional, intellectual, and physical disabilities. In this role, I played with the campers, supported and guided them, assisted them with various tasks, and helped to plan various enrichment activities for them throughout the day. I have been trained and certified in conflict resolution, CPR, and First Aid.

On a personal note, I am also disabled myself (though am personally able to work and live independently.) I like to think this gives me particular insight on working with people with disabilities, as I am able to better relate and empathize with them.
