A little bit about me

I’m an educator who wants to get involved with my community. At 16 I got a position at my local art center. I ran art classes for elementary school aged children and during the summer, I instructed art camps for children ages 2-15 years old. I supplemented my work by dedicating 100 hours each year until I graduated volunteering with kids. Post high school from 18-19, I have taught 2-3 year olds as a preschool teacher for two school years where I identified and managed mental and behavioral health, potty trained students, and taught educational and emotional development. When I moved to Chicago 19, I became an assistant teacher and worked in two classrooms at the same school with infants 0-2 and 4-5 year olds. When the school year ended, I started at the Chicago Children’s Museum as a Play and Learning Facilitator and an art workshop instructor for the season until I became a store manager at 21 years old. I am currently still 21 ready to leave store management and work with kids again.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Building a connection with each family.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with two special needs children at my preschool when I taught 2-3 year olds. One was physically disabled while the other had autism. I underwent a two month training course on how to help them adapt to communal care and how to properly assist them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite teaching moment was with a student potentially on the spectrum who was undiagnosed but exhibiting symptoms of ADHD or potentially autism. His mom wasn’t around much and he was two years old with three younger siblings and four older siblings. His mom took him to school once (His dad typically took him to school. This was my first time meeting mom.) and his separation anxiety was triggered from that moment on and his behavior at school started to become a lot worse. Nevertheless, when we would go to wash hands after drop off, he would always ask me for a hug and each morning he would cry in my arms. I would try to make him feel better by drawing him a picture until I realized he was good at drawing too so I would ask him to draw for me instead. By the end of the year he stopped crying at drop off because we would promise to exchange drawings. I still have his drawings to this day.

I worked full time as a special education teaching Assistant in a public elementary school in Saint Paul, MN. I have extensive experience with kids with autism or other developmental delays as well as twins! I have always loved making up games and getting to know and caring for little ones. Currently, and for almost a year now, I am working at a preschool/daycare with ages 3 months to 4 years depending on the day and am really loving the younger ones. I am in Old Town, Chicago and have a car if you are further away! Although my experience is very limited with older kids (9yrs+) I would love to get a chance to know yours!
