My name is Vanessa I am 38 years old. I’ve been an elementary school teacher for about nine years with a masters in elementary education. As difficult as this decision has been, I am deciding to leave the field of public education , so Ive decided to make a very big change moving forward . However, I can’t see myself not being around kids, which has brought me here. I am also a certified children’s yoga instructor and an artist, a book lover, and an arts and craft supply hoarder. I am fine with light housework and meal prepping. I do have a car & I’m very reliable however, I’m not sure how comfortable having children in my car unless it is very nearby. I think this is something that could be discuss further if the opportunity arises. I’m not a fluent Spanish speaker, but I do understand. I do speak a bit of Portuguese. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I’ve been an elementary educator for almost 9 years now with New Jersey public schools. Prior to that, I’ve also taught English in South Korea to all grade levels. I am a certified as a children’s yoga instructor and I am the go-to babysitter for most of my friends and close family for about 12 years now. I did work in a daycare for one year right after college. More recently, I volunteer at local events to do children’s face painting. I have experiences with all age groups.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts and crafts, reading, running around and playing and just being kids. I’m also really big on teaching life skills that are developmentally appropriate for their age group.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Safety and the preparation that goes into that prior to starting to nanny. Clear communication is always the best policy and being constantly informed about anything the child might need because you never know.
You can have as much fun as you want as long as you are aware of all the child’s needs, how to keep the child safe in all situations, knowing all of the emergency contacts and when to call them. I think that this is the most important thing. Once I feel comfortable in knowing everything I need to know to totally protect the child and I am all for having a great time and learning and being someone you can trust in your house with your most precious possession.

My experience with special needs children...

During my years as an educator, I have mostly dealt with economically disadvantaged children, and’s all of the emotional and develop mental problems that may come along with that children, who have been abused or homeless and/ or in between foster homes. I many times had the inclusion classroom which included children with a variety of special-needs ranging from children with Asperger’s to a having mild symptoms of being on the autism spectrum.. Most recently I have had experience with dyslexic children and sensory processing disorder.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Every day is challenging, but also a gift because I love being around children for the simple fact that they are innocent honest, and they are excited to learn new things about the world, and I enjoy being the person that they can trust to help them do that
