More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I work in my local church nursery and step up with kids from 18 months to 4 years old , currently . I have also worked for child day cares in the past .

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I will read books , play board games , puppet shows , coloring and painting , (if permitted ), dancing , and pretend concerts . Dolls / trucks . Some video games (if permitted ) . Outdoors , exploring (bugs , nature) basketball (I'm only 5 ft. so not good at it ) , tennis , volleyball , soccer and or walks , window shopping , visiting the zoo , art galleries , flea market , Ice cream shop. Library , local festivals ,

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is keeping them safe but letting themselves express themselves and be themselves . The shy ones I let them be shy until they don't want to be any more . It's good to let them grow on their own and step out of that fear so that not only do they feel safe but they know it . They know they are not going to be forced to do something they don't want to do or aren't ready for . I had a new little girl and she was not happy being away from her aunt . She would cry the whole time . It was weeks like that but I sat next to her to let her know I was there if she needed me . Other kids would try to console her ( so cute ) but she was not having it . One day she fell asleep crying . When she realized she was asleep she sat up and handed me her shoe (it had fallen off) and then her foot . I gently lifted her into my lap put her shoe on . She got up and started playing . Kids are really amazing little people! It takes them minutes to do what takes us years !

My experience with special needs children...

I've worked with special needs children that were non- verbal and also that had limited to no mobility . I've bathed , clothed and fed some of the children . I have some experience with colostomy bags and or diapers (adult and infant) . I have experience in using a Hoyer lift to aid in getting a child from bed to a tub and or a wheelchair etc. I also have experience with wheelchairs , scooters and walkers . I also have experience with children with behavioral issues. Most of my children with these types of behaviors were due to their lack of being able to communicate . Time , patience and paying attention to body language and social cues tends to correct these behaviors . Especially in children with autism.

The most important part about being a nanny...

On my birthday my kids from nursery made me birthday cards and one little gentleman wrote that he likes my hair its fluffy like a bunny rabbit . Love that , still makes me smile ! I've also got a brother and sister and they take the drumsticks and pretend they are in the song service at our church , soooo cute ! I could go on for days telling stories about all of them !
