Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
When I was in high school I done a lot of volunteer work with children. From age 15-18 I was a teacher assistant for a 1st grade church class on Sundays. I have also volunteered and Boys and Girls Club for about two years, where my job was just to play with the kids and be a ear for anyone that wanted to talk. I also volunteered at the Village Summit for about two years as well. There we also just played with children but it was more of a personal experience with the kids because there were a lot less children. Currently I baby sit a beautiful 1 year old girl about three times a week while her mother is at work.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing activities that require some imagination the most. Things likes dance parties, little concerts, story time, and playing with their toys. Our imagination decreases as we get older so I always try a engage kids in using their imagination as much as they can. I also love arts an crafts, swimming/splash pads, baking, and picnics. I also try to make sure if the child does talk that they can contribute to what we do in some way. For an example, if we were to go on a picnic they could pick the chips or the dessert. Something so they just feel like they are also making decisions.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing about being a nanny is being everything that the child needs in the moment. Its important that children feel safe and heard with their nanny. I never want the children that I watch to feel that everyday has to be the same or on a schedule. If a child is telling me vocally or through body language that they don't want to do something, I would never force them. If they need a hug, they will get that. If they need to burn some energy, we will go play. As a nanny my job is to not just watch your child, but to make their childhood just a little bit better with fun, trust, and patience.
My experience with special needs children...
I have only worked with special needs teens but never children. But it is something I am willing to do and learn more about.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moment when babysitting was when I was talking to a 1 year old girl that I watch and she completely just made my heart full. I always just talk to her even though she doesn't understand everything but she talks back in gibberish. And this time she was watching her cartoons and I was saying to her "Aren't I the best babysitter in the world?", which then she usually nods. But this time she turned to me and blew me a kiss and then turned back towards her cartoons. It was the most purist moment ever. It completely caught me off guard because she has never done that to me before. She would only do that to her parents. So I just gasped and said thank you for that as I was just overwhelmed with cuteness. Little does she know, her blowing me a kiss is probably going to always be one of my favorite memories of her.
