Hi!! My name is Zuri! i’m 19 years old. I moved to Virginia 3 years ago. I’ve been a nanny and babysitter for a year now. I’ve been a substitute teacher and tutor
for elementary schools in Newport News for 2 years now! I’ve been babysitting/nannying for a year as well!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy going outside and being active. As a child I was always outside playing and running around with my cousins and friends. I lovveee painting and drawing! I enjoy watching movies and listening to music. I am absolutely in love with dancing!! I like to put on “Just Dance” on the tv and dancing. Even as a young adult playing dress up is one of my favorite things to do! I love to read and on my free time i play math flashcard games lol!! As someone who enjoys talking, I honestly love just sitting and talkin to children and listening to them talk. I love learning the things that they like and what they imagine about the world around them. Last but not least, i LOVE cooking!! I absolutely love baking and letting kids decorate and seeing their creativity shine through the meals or treats that they make!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Caring and being there is very important. I believe that every kid should have someone there for them and to show up. Their parents work hard and love them and want to do everything and juggle it all, but in reality it’s hard. Showing up and being there and assuring them that they are loved and cared for is very important.

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve watched over 2 autistic little boys for about 6 months before they moved. I’ve learned and gained a lot of knowledge about the diagnosis over time. Growing up my mother was an early interventionist and social worker, so her talking to me and watching her work has enlightened me.
