"Annah was reliable, flexible, creative, and trustworthy with our kids. She handles stressful situations well and appropriately. She ensured our children were safe and happy. She also helped us a great deal with our dogs when we needed to go out of town. We even tried to get her to move with us when we moved across the country. Would hire her again in a second! She will make a great addition to your family!"

A little bit about me

Hi, I am a organized, detail oriented, self-motivated child care provider. I have spent the last 10 years providing care to children and elderly.
I love children and they seem to love me, as well.
In my last job I cared for 4 children ages 7 months, 3, 8 and 10 years. I was responsible for providing before and after school care, also full daycare for infant and toddler and older children on school holidays. I made snacks and meals, transported children to school, sports, appointments, helped with homework, light housekeeping, ran errands and anything else the family needed.
If you need help with your children, I would love to work with your family.

"I met Gail about 7 years ago when I hired her for the charge of caring for my four children: two girls and two boys ages 7 months, 3, 8 and 10 years. Gail met the challenge head-on, with unflinching skill and steadfast ability. Gail was the perfect choice to care for my children. She is extremely responsible, fun-loving and the kids adored her! She attended to the baby and toddler during the day. Around 2 pm, she began picking up the older kids and drove them to various activities, or home. She prepared snacks, supervised homework, and would prepare dinner. Gail always kept things clean, and organized, the pets fed/watered. I never worried when the kids were with her. She managed several crises calmly and effectively. I cannot recommend Gail highly enough for any childcare, babysitting or nanny position with infants, toddlers, and school-aged children. Please, do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance. Sincerely, Ann Sisk 831.316.2335 ann@learninginmotion.com"

"Brianna watched our almost 1.5 yo son for 2 - 3 days a week until he was ready to go into daycare/preschool. She is a joy to have. Not only does she listen and mirror your preferred parenting style, she’s warm and kids love her. She would take our son on fun and educational trips (ex. The park & library). She really wants to connect with whomever she’s taking care of and it shows. Our son really benefited from Brianna’s care and attention. We have kept in touch and I know she’s gone on in her career and taken additional early childhood education courses which proves she dedicated to her job and kids"

A little bit about me

I have been working with two amazing families in a nanny share since May of 2022. As families have grown we are looking to find a new addition to add to our existing share (with what will be a 5 month old) starting October 12th 2026!

I find myself having the most fun creatively expressing myself through 3D arts, and full body movement (swimming, biking, dance, yoga, etc) . I prioritize connecting with nature, exploring music, and deepening my childlike wonder through philosophy.

How to Find a Babysitter in Santa Cruz, CA

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, a dedicated hiring agent, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Santa Cruz, CA

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Santa Cruz can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Santa Cruz Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in California?
  • Do you have a California driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
