I believe Childrens are the best version of our selves and working with them is a unique opportunity to help parents to achieve the optimal happiness and development of their child. I was an MD in my country so I am skilled in CPR, first aid as well as children development. Children bring happiness to the world and make you focus in what is more important in life: remain curious, creative, innocent and selfless. Thank you. Daniela

I grew up with three younger brothers whom I helped to care for, and an extended family (my grandmother had 13 children and in my step-mother's family there were 5). As the eldest and only girl in my family, I did quite a bit to take care of my brothers and cousins as I grew up and became old enough to babysit. My father brought to me the love of crafts and cooking. School brought to me the knowledge of sewing and other homemaking skills. As my brothers learned about boy scouts, I paid attention, although I wasn’t allowed to do anything, thus I learned a great deal about camping, first aid, and nature. As a teen, I babysat for my neighbors whose children ranged in age from 1-10. When I watched their children, we played games, read books, and if it was late night, I put them to bed. While they were in bed I would clean. When I became a parent, I ran a small daycare in my home during the summer. There were three children aged 6 months to 4. I did everything for them that I did for my daughter: changed, fed, played, and gave them naps. We went for walks and played in the playground on nice days, and colored or finger painted on not so nice days. I will have worked for the family I nanny for now for four years. The little boy will be 4 years old when I leave.

I began babysitting children when I was 14/15 during the summer months. I would babysit for families from my yacht club and I have a lot of younger cousins and would also babysit for them. For the past 2 summers, I have nannyed for 2 families part-time. The children were ages 2-7 and I had a lot of fun working with the families. Last summer, I was also a camp counselor in Cambridge, Ma. At camp I was a counselor for a group of 15 1st graders. I love kids and have a lot of fun working with them. I come from a big family and have a lot of experience with children of all ages.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Watertown, MA

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Watertown can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Watertown Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Massachusetts?
  • Do you have a Massachusetts driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
