A little bit about me…

I have been a live-out nanny for over 20 years. I have worked in the Washington Metro Area in Arlington, McLean, Alexandria, Great Falls and DC. Presently I am out of work because my employer was laid off. I have taken care of children from the ages of newborn through 16-year-olds. When they are infants, I feed them, bathe them, change diapers, prepare their bottles, go for walks, play with them with their toys, go to the park with them, read to them, do laundry and tidy their rooms. I also take them to their appointments and other activities. When they are of school age, I cook for the kids, do grocery shopping, drive them to their activities, do laundry, play with them and tidy up the house. I love working with kids and enjoy being with them. I am a US citizen and have a valid Virginia Driver's License. I can swim and I am capable of administering CPR if needed.

A little bit about me…

I had the chance to make three international trips, two of them on vacation (to the USA - Florida) and the other one as a student (Interchange Program in Canada in 1996). Now I am living in United States - Virginia as an Au Pair. I stayed in Canada for 6 months, at a Canadian family’s home, in order to improve my language fluency and also to learn more about the culture from this country. I had a work experience in two mathematics classes, with children from 4 to 6 years old. My year as Au Pair is being a very pleasurable experience. I am learning a lot and don't think it's the time to come back to Brazil. I want to stay here a little longer. I just started a paralegal course and want to be able to complete it. That's why I am looking foward the opportunity to share my life with another family, to be a good influence for the children and looking to help expand their worlds and their minds as well as my own.

A little bit about me…

I have been babysitting since I was 14. I consistently babysat a family that had 4 kids. Three summers ago I was a nanny for a 12 year old boy (I worked 8 AM to 7 PM, M-F). I'm studying at Radford University to become a RN. I love kids of all ages! I have plenty of experience with really young kids and I greatly enjoy older kids.

A little bit about me…

Hi my name is Eliza, and I am a rising college freshman! I have been babysitting since the 6th grade, and have babysat infants to a 16 year old mentally handicapped girl. This past school year I was a part-time nanny for a family of four (4 year old twin boys, 7 year old boy, and 9 year old girl), and during this year I took the kids home from school, played with them, and gave them a snack until their mother came home from work. I love children and was a Camp Counselor, at Camp Seafarer, which have attended since the 3rd grade. When I am not working at my camp or being a part-time nanny, I babysit about 4 different families that use me on weekdays and weekends. I am up for any type of family and can't wait to get to work.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Fairfax Station, VA

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Fairfax Station can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Fairfax Station Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Virginia?
  • Do you have a Virginia driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
