A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Allison Sugar and I am 20 years old, and currently finishing up my sophomore year at Franklin Pierce University, in New Hampshire. I am a student athlete, and am a member of the Women's Ice Hockey team. I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in criminal justice and I hope to work with children once graduated. I'm looking for a mother's helper job opportunity for the 2018 summer. I love kids and enjoy being around them, I am the third of four kids so I have always been around a variety of age ranges. I am pretty flexible and open once I get out from school in early May. I would love to work as a day nanny over the summer, whether that be just a few days a week or a 5 days a week kind of deal! But preferably I am looking for a more frequent and often opening. I currently live in Canton, CT but am willing to commute to other times within reason. I have lived in CT since I was in second grade, having also lived in PA and NH. I grew up in a very active family, with my parens and 3 siblings, and two dogs. I graduated high school from Berkshire School, a boarding school in Massachusetts.
I am comfortable doing play date supervision, afterschool care, and swimming supervision, or just watching the children during the day! I am comfortable working with sick children. I first started off as a lifeguard for two summers, during those two summers and then last summer I worked both day and overnight camps in Avon, as well as in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Canton, CT

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Canton Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Canton? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Canton?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in CT? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
