My past Childcare experience has been great. I started babysitting because i am the scond oldest in my family so i helped my mom out alot with taking care of my younger siblings. Then I moved on to taking care of family members. I've always enjoyed babysitting. I love working with kids and helping them out in any way.

1992-1995 I am from a small town in Illinois of roughly 500 people. I was known in my High School years as one of the popular town babysitters. This family was my top family. It has been so long ago, it is hard for me to remember exact years and ages. Brent, I want to say maybe was 7-8 when I started, and Bridget 5 or 6? I also have a sister 10 years younger than me. She was my little sidekick. She was our cheerleading mascot in High School. Her and Bridget were the same age, so when I babysat I also would take me sister with. I watched Brent and Bridget on weekends a lot all the way up until they were able to start caring for themselves. It is still neat as well to keep in touch with them on Facebook and see how they are and where they are. Surprisingly enough they both still live in my small hometown and Bruce and Lisa, the parents, are still my mom and dads neighbors. 1997-2000 Full-time nanny for 4 year old named Michael. I worked daytime Monday-Friday, occasional evenings and weekends when asked. Prepared breakfast, lunch and some dinners. Transported to and from school. Playtime activities such as swim lessons, story book time at the library and museums. Went to the park, fed the ducks, took walks, bike rides. Housecleaning, laundry, ironing, errands when needed. Left the family when I was moving to Nashville, Tennessee. Keep in contact with Michael now through Facebook, and it is neat to see how he has grown. This past summer Dr. Susan Perry called me to let me know that the family would be in Chicago staying for a Convention and met them out for dinner. Michael is now 18, and it is so neat to see the young man he has turned into be. 2000-2009 Part-time nanny for a single father of a 7 year old girl, named Morgan. Help with transportation to and from school. Took her to many school activities, cheerleading practice. Also attended many sporting events she was in, not only as her caretaker but as support. Helped with homework. Cleaned, laundry, ran errands. Went for bike rides. Not only developed a wonderful friendship with Morgan but also seemed as though I was a big sister to her. Did manicures/pedicures together. Styled her hair. As she got older had girl talks. Showed her fashion. 2010-Present Part-time nanny for a 4 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. Jamie works from her home, so I help care for the kids on certain days she has mostly conference calls or lunch meetings. I help with dressing the kids in the morning, brush their teeth, make breakfast, read books, play games, play outside if weather permits. The kids go along with me if I need to do some personal assistant work for Jamie, such as, run work errands, grocery shop, dry cleaners, bank. At the house I also help with household chores, vacuum, dust, laundry, iron, prepare meals.

I have been babysitting since i was about 12 years old. I have babysat as little as 2 weeks and as old as 13. every family i have sit for has always asked me to come back. I have babysat 4 boys under the age of 5for 6 years now and it was a blast and i loved how they kept me so active on the job. I have picked kids up from school or dropped them off for the parent or even took them to the pool or park. I have been a lifeguard for 18 months now so i am CPR certified and certified in first aid where they made us the best and we always knew our skills, so i will never be able to forget those. I have traveled with a family to costa rica for a week where i watch a 2 year old and than 1 year old twins and it was such an amazing experience. I have also traveled with a family i babysit to Boston to help her out with her kids. I took the child and development class at my school and made me understand kids so much more as i worked with 1st grades. I love kids and cant wait to have my own sometime in the future. I am also CPR and first aid certified (these were renewed may 1st 2010).

I have been babysitting since I was about 12 years old. Even when I was not old enough to go to other homes and babysit for other families children I always cared for my own little sister who is three years younger than me and loved helping my mom out. I have babysat for numerous families anywhere from my own family members (i.e cousins), my mothers work friends families, and even my bus drivers children. I nannied for a family over the summer of 2007, and fell in love with the job. I continued my nannying career at the end of the summer of 2009 after a long search for the perfect family and job.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Grayslake, IL

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Grayslake Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Grayslake? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Grayslake?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in IL? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
