My first child care position was in 1986 for the 3 sons of a physician, my next door neighbor. I stayed quite busy, scheduled for the weekend care of their boys, as well as the children of their close friends. I spent the summer of 1989 in Liberia, West Africa, where I interacted with the tribal children on a daily basis. I went on to a live-in position on the east coast, where I stayed for one year. After getting married, I began caring for 4-5 children at a time in my home. While raising my own family, it provided me with the opportunity to do what I do best; entertain and educate children.
As my children grew, I spent more and more time volunteering in their classrooms and cared for other's children primarily on weekends.
When my children became teenagers, graduated, and moved onto college, I became a nanny full-time, caring for children in their homes. I call myself the "Mary Poppins of Michiana", as I am a huge fan of singing, acting, dancing, reading, and having fun, fun, fun with the children while educating them as well.
I have cared for children with special needs. I have also volunteered with the local children's community theatre, caring for/entertaining large groups of children backstage.
One of my ideas, for entertaining children during long car drives (no electronics, when there is the opportunity to talk with one another and be creative!), was published in Family Fun Magazine in 2010. My "15 minutes of fame"!
I truly enjoy what I do. My enthusiasm and energetic, loving personality is contagious. I am still in contact with many of the children that were once in my care. Many are in college and some are even married! We stayed in touch throughout the years. I consider them part of my family.
I also enjoy collecting books, reading them, and working in my flower garden.
I am currently looking for a full-time, live-out position.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile!
