Dear Families , I am a huge lover of reading and the arts, and grew up in a home filled with both. Here is a bit about me and my previous experience with working with children and families. I am a Bostonian born and bred. I am 31 years old and have an Associates degree in Early Childhood Ed with a Certification infant toddler teaching BA in Psych with a minor in English and am currently pursuing a Masters in Theology. I have extensive experience working with infants and young children. My primary experience is with infants. During my college years i worked off and on (Short term jobs) for different families in the married student housing. Many of those jobs were for families immediately following the birth of a new baby (infant Care). After college i worked for a family during the summer of 06. The family had two children, the youngest was around 19 months and the older one was 3. I am a certified infant/toddler teacher with CPR and First Aid training and I worked for Bright Horizon's in Watertown from 08-10 as an infant teacher. My latest childcare positions were summer 2010- I cared for a infant (baby boy) from April- August. directly following that job i went to work for a close friend after the birth of her first child. To top this off, from March 2010- June 2011 I shared an apartment with a young woman who had an infant whom I helped to co-parent. When I moved in the baby had just turned 1 and when we parted ways the baby was 26months. Since that time I have been continuing to pursue my M.Div degree, and caring for co-students little ones off and on. I am very excited to hear more about yourself and your little one. Sincerely Sarah Robinson

I grew up in a large family (6 children) so I've been dealing with children my whole life. I babysat during summers in high school and also worked as a mother's helper for a family of 8 special needs children. I frequently volunteer in my church's nursery (ages newborn-3) and I assist with teaching a class of 3-8 year olds once a week.

While i was attending high school i was employed with a family in which i would to pick their child with autism up from school and make sure he got home safe. While at his house waiting for his parents to get home i would make sure he got all his homework done. I also made sure he had a snack and if we had time i would try and help socialize him and set up play dates. I just graduated from college and during my time there i spent several hours in an Elementary school classrooms observing and also helping the teacher out.

I have baby sat for my neighbors and family friends for up to 7 children at once. The children ranged from 9 months to 11 years old. I was a teachers assistant and tutor for two weeks for the Dedham Middle School TREK program in which I helped out with class activities and labs as well as helping students with summer math and reading assignments. I have also worked with the Town of Dedham's Recreation Department as a camp counselor for two years. The campers ranged from five to fourteen and daily responsibilities included entertaining and watching campers. I had to organize different games to keep kids entertained before and after the lunch break in which parents would come and take their kids for the hour break. It was important to make sure each child was picked up before breaking for lunch.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Dedham, MA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Dedham Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Dedham? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Dedham?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in MA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
